Teen Mentorship/INDEPENDENT study
Course Overview: The Independent Study in Art course is designed for students with a keen interest in art and a solid foundation in the elements and principles of art. This course aims to facilitate the exploration of new mediums, deepen personal interests, and aid students in discovering their unique artistic voice. Course Objectives By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Explore a New Art Medium/Technique • Understand and apply foundational techniques of a new medium. • Experiment with various methods to create distinctive artworks.
2. Establish a Consistent Sketchbook Practice • Commit to daily sketchbook work to enhance technical drawing skills. • Utilize the sketchbook as a planning tool for larger projects.
3. Establish Creative Goals and Execute Projects • Set personal creative goals for the year. • Develop and follow a plan to complete project goals, which may include creating a cohesive body of work, illustrating a book, etc.
4. Participate in Art Community Activities • Assist in classroom preparation, organization, and summer camps. • Engage in an artist vendor market to gain insights into the business side of art.
NOTE: Students will have access to shared supplies but are responsible for bringing an art tote with additional materials, which will vary for each student
